Draft questions for DPS

When and why did you start playing?
I starting playing when she was 16 because she had to learn how to play guitar in school and became passionate about it. I had role model that I looked up to and wanted to be like them. Another reason for me getting into the music was to impress some girls. (Laughs)

Who are your favourite musicians? Groups? CD's?
My favourite musicians/rappers are drake, Eminem, Kanye west because their lyrics are really meaningful and I can relate to them they help me through really bad times of my life. People also tell me a lot that me and Kanye west have similar personalities as we are both quite arrogant but personally I believe I am not arrogant I am confident people tend to confuse the two. I have the confidence in my abilities which makes me certain that I will be one of the greatest musicians to ever leave and hopefully one day to be like… No I mean even surpass my idols.

Is your family musical?
My older brother is in a band and my parents work in the music industry too. I grew up in a very musical family which motivated me to follow a path in that industry. My family is full of a bunch of music loving lunatic but I still love them because they’ve always supported me. It’s mainly because of them I made it this far plus my charm and lovable personality of course.

Which famous musicians have you learned from?
I have learned from a variety of musician but I’ve taken most of my inspiration for 2Pac because he was a really iconic rapper and a good person too plus his success inspired me. I plan on being… wait let me rephrase that I am going to be one day as famous and as successful as 2pac he was a legend in the music industry and I adore him to bits. People call me the king of hip-hop but I plan on becoming the God of hip-hop.

Describe your first instrument
My first instrument was (thinks…) oh it was a guitar which was gifted to me by my parents and they knew about my passion for music in school even though it was compulsory for me to learn it at school I still enjoyed it. Although at the beginning I hated playing guitar as I found it difficult now thanks to all my hard work and effort I can play it blindfolded with my feet (laughs).

What are your fondest musical memories? In your house? In your neighbourhood or town? Urm… (Laughs) this is going to sound a bit weird but when I was younger my friends and I used to learn lyric and have rap battles (laughs) but that’s part of the reason as to why I am so good at rapping and being put on the spot.

How do you handle mistakes during a performance?
I usually just pretend it didn’t happened I usually just improvise and joke about it with my audience. If I make a mistake I would most likely ridicule myself as it always a positive thing to be able to look at yourself and have the confidence.

What advice would you give to beginners who are nervous about performing?
I would advise to think mainly about how it would feel like at the end of the performance also to think of your nerves as motivation as it shows that you are passionate and dedicated to please your fans.

Starting my proposal

unfinished leyton magazine contents page

Evaluation

what went well would be the image manipulation on Photoshop for my magazine cover as i manipulated it to make it look more professional. also another thing that went well was the photography because i had all the pictures required to finish the task which was required of me. furthermore the page layout, text, masthead and cover lines came out better than expected and fit well with my magazine
what i could improve is i could have finished the the contents page plus i could have added more detail to work.another improvement would be time management as i did not manage the time taken to complete the work accordingly.
one key point for development when producing a music magazine is to have an iconic form of typography so we know what magazine this is from afar, every issue has the same font and bold red coloured text.
The best thing about the magazine is that it caters for different tastes of music, therefore this attracts a wider audience to read the magazine. Not a lot of music magazines today include more than one area of music and normally focus on one.
another key point is it most be targeted to the right audience as they will be the prime consumer and are essentially the main focus of producing a magazine.
one final key point is that the magazine has to be recognisable by the audience hence why they need to be more conventional then unconventional so that the audience can decode what type and what genre of magazine it is.

My textual annalysis

                                  Cover page

  • has a conventional 3 colour scheme of black, white and blue to make it more professional and it gives it a more clean look
  • contains multiple cover stars of different hip-hop artist which will make the magazine sell more issues as it contains more than 1 main star so it will reach a wider audience
  • has a bar code  for people to scan and view for information about the magazine
  • the magazine contains a long shot to ensure that all the cover stars fit into the frame which is essentially unconventional due to the fact that most magazine contain 1 cover star which a medium close up shot.
  • the cover stars all have a direct mode of address which gives them power and authority
  • the posture and body language of all the cover star connotes that they are all associated with rap and hip-hop music.
  • there target audience would mainly been teens and those interested in the hip-hop genre
  • the font is very simple and the main cover line is in bold to give the reader more information of what is featured in the magazine.
                                    Contents page
  • magazine features other celebrities to attract a wider audience
  • the contents page also contain the cover stars which is conventional for most magazine.
  • the image takes up the most amount of space and therefore stands out and is noticeable by the audience. this supports the effectiveness of the magazine as the image is able to attract the reader in.
  • also they have page numbers at the bottom
  • uses rather informal language to relate to their target audience
  • the logo is also featured in the contents page to remind the reader of what magazine they are reading
  • the contents page also follows the same colour scheme of the front cover.
  • the main features are written in bold and are essentially the first piece of text the audience will read due to the fact that it stand out

                                                             double page spread

the double page spread has an unconventional design as in most double page spreads the image would be on one half of the page and text on the other. However in this one the image is on both sides and takes up most space as it is the anchor and is practically the main important piece as it attracts the audience.
the double page spread doesn't contain as much much text as other but the most important piece of on text (on the left) is in bold and has been highlighted white.
the contents page also contains all the cover stars

My chosen music genre

The hip-hop music genre has become increasingly popular. Since the late 1970s, when the culture and music was taking form, there was something unique about the beats and the rhymes, as well as the dances, fashion and graffiti.

The hip hop genre has revolutionised today’s society and culture because of how it has changed the world by being so original and unconventional. There are many reasons as to why I enjoy hip-hop music as it’s currently one of the most popular music genres out there. One of the reasons as to why I enjoy the hip pop music genre would be due to the fact that they contain amazing and fascinating lyrics and rhymes. Part of what makes hip hop lyrics so appealing is the slang that are used by the artists to paint their picture. Artists such as Drake, Nicki Minaj, Jay Z and Desiigner have created a language in which many people in our society use. Furthermore the hip hop genre has inspired some of the most popular  popular dances such as the dab and others.
